Here are a few kitchen cleaning tips that will have the whole family participating in the process. Who wouldn't like a cleaner kitchen, right? The kitchen gets the most use of any room in the house, and if you have a big family, or kids, it can be a real chore to keep this room clean. In fact, my wife has commented on more than one occasion how at times it seems that all she does during the day is clean the kitchen...a never ending process of fixing meals and cleaning up after everyone.
Well it is time that all of that changes! These cleaning tips involved getting everyone in the family involved in not only the process of cleaning the kitchen when it gets dirty, but in the process of keeping the kitchen clean throughout the day. Mom felt the way she did because everyone just left their cups and bowls and whatever else on the counters and tables in the kitchen. Sure they were told to "clean up after themselves", but it got to a point that NOBODY was actually doing this, instead realying on good ole' mom to clean up after them. Enough is Enough!
So, some of the best advice we can give to help you gain control over your kitchen, and your life, is to establish (or re- establish) rules in the home that EVERYONE is responsible for their own messes. If they take food out of the refrigerator or cabinet, it needs to go back into the frig and cabinets when they are done. Dishes are to be washed, or rinsed and put into the dishwasher. Kitchen counter tops and tables need to be wiped down, and in general the kitchen needs to look like it did when they entered it.
There is an old saying "leave a campsite cleaner than when you arrived", this now applied to our kitchen.
This transition was easier than we imagined it would be, both of us were a little concerned that we allowed the kids (and dad) to get a little out of hand and reliant on mom cooking, cleaning, and providing daily maintenance of the kitchen cleanliness. But, it was much less painful than we imagined! We sat everyone down and explained the situation. It was not really a news flash to anyone that mom did the bulk of the chores and was providing daily maid service for everyone. We all agreed that this was not fair and would all chip in to do our part.
1. If you take something out of a kitchen cabinet, the pantry, or refrigerator it needs to go back to where you got it, or in the garbage or recycling, or cleaned properly.
2. If you use the oven, stove, or microwave...and the respective pots, pans, and utensils...they need to be cleaned after use.
3. Leave the kitchen cleaner than when you arrived!
We all had a few lapses trying to restablish our personal responsibility in maintaining a clean kitchen, but after only a week or so we were in a good routine. We were holding each other accountable and/or helping out when we could and everyone was enjoying having a clean kitchen. I think even Martha Stewart would be proud and will she would probably give us a few other hints and guide us to consider how to clean our countertops in a more efficient manner (she is Martha after all) we were pretty proud of our solutions.
So, if you are struggling to keep a clean kitchen, maybe these kitchen cleaning tips can help you and your family. Don't pile the responsible on just one person, instead, get everyone to do their part in maintaining a clean kitchen.
